Thailand in Paris

June 29, 2009

I just had a lovely meeting with a former professor of mine in her beautiful quartier on the east side of Paris and had some truly amazing Thai food at Royal Bangkok on 4, rue du Cher (métro Gambetta). Spicy, flavorful foods — I had nems (the equivalent of the egg roll in Paris), beef in a spicy basil sauce and on top of that, a lovely, perfectly ripe mango-turned-inside-out-and-diced so that it looked like a semi-spherical orange checkerboard. The evening was lovely, and the day’s ridiculous 28-degree (Celsius) heat had been calmed by an evening breeze.
